Facial rejuvenation involves procedures which return the youthful volume and contour to the face while removing the nagging wrinkles, uneven skin tone, acne and excess skin that may be present. These procedures can be combined with non-surgical maneuvers to give the desired appearance of the face. This field of Plastic Surgery is very attractive because results can usually be seen within 7-10 days however, swelling is to be expected.
The spectrum of treatments range from Blepharoplasty (removal of excess skin and protruding fat in the upper and lower eyelid), Mini- and Full- Facelifts, and Neck lift with Liposuction. Surgical facial rejuvenation is undertaken in an Outpatient setting with patients going home the same day. The ideal patient has all chronic conditions such as Hypertension and Diabetes well-controlled and is in good medical condition.
Blepharoplasty
Removal of excess skin and protruding fat from the upper and lower eyelid results in a youthful appearing eye. This procedure is done alone if the eyebrows are in the proper location or in conjunction with a Brow lift, if the eyebrows are too low. The upper eyelid scar is hidden within the natural eye crease and lower eyelid scar under the eyelashes. Swelling is treated with control of Blood Pressure, ice to the eyes immediately after surgery and a natural, homeopathic medication provided by us. Additionally, patients are asked to sleep in an upright position for the first 48 hours.
Mini- and Full- Facelifts
Facelift surgery returns the soft tissue of the face to its original position. The drooping fat pads under the eye and deep nasolabial folds (depressions from the base of the nose to the lips) as well as the jowls (excess and drooping skin along the jaw) are repositioned superiorly (up). This lifting prevents the ‘pulled or tight’ appearance of the face. The incisions are hidden in the skin in front of the ear and behind the ear. Major swelling is to be anticipated and is treated with control of Blood Pressure, natural homeopathic medication and elevation of the head. Dressings are worn on the face for 24-48 hours and a drain is used. At the first follow-up visit the drain is removed, but the facial bra is continued as deemed necessary. The decision to proceed with mini- or full- depends on the amount of skin to be removed and the areas that need to be addressed.
Neck lift with Liposuction
One of the biggest complaints I hear from patients, concerns the appearance of their neck. The loose, sagging and excess skin gives the face an older appearance. These issues can be addressed by performing a Neck lift with Liposuction along the jawline to treat the jowls (sagging fat along the jaw line). The incision is hidden on the undersurface of the chin and usually heals well and is not visible at conversational distance. The addition of an incision behind the ear may be added if excess skin is present in the mid-neck. It is necessary to wear a face garment to aid the skin in adhering and achieving the desired contouring.
